December 11, 2017. Maayong Panglawas sa Sulod man o sa Gawas is Department of Health Davao Region’s theme for the LAST MILE – Adopt a Community Strategy Launching. The activity was jointly organized by City Government of Davao, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the DOH. Other partners from different National Agencies, Non-Government Organizations, Private Organizations, Schools and Partner Hospitals were present and helped made the activity a success
Eighty-five health workers (Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, Dentists, Medical Technologists, and Midwives) worked hand-in-hand and made it possible to cater not less than 1,200 pre-screened patients out 4,602 inmates at BJMP, Maa, Davao City needing different health services such as Medical Check-up, Eye check-up, Psychological counselling, Dermatological check-up, Dental Check-up, Family Planning Counselling and flu and pneumococcal vaccination.
Assistant Secretary of Health for Mindanao and Regional Director, Dr. Abdullah B. Dumama Jr reiterated that the activity focuses on the economically and socially disadvantaged and neglected people and areas where development needs are greatest and where resources are limited. He also took the opportunity to promote and encourage foreign-based and local organizations to work with DOH before conducting surgical, medical and dental missions to ensure that the activity will respond to the healthcare needs of the appropriate communities in a hope to harmonize the provision of services and other assistance from foreign and local groups of organizations. -suyavila
