One of the core hospital services is blood transfusion services. The adequacy and safety of our blood supply rest on the size of the panel of regular voluntary non-remunerated blood donors (VNRBD). Repeat regular VNRBDs are suitable and reliable blood donors. System based on family/replacement donors cannot be relied upon to meet the needs of the area. This also threatens the safety of our blood supply. Thus, to sustain the adequacy, safety and quality of our blood supply it is crucial that BSFs are able to maintain an expanding sizable panel of voluntary non-remunerated blood donors (VNRBD).

To build up a sizable panel of repeat regular VNRBDs, an effective system of blood donor recruitment and retention has to be in place in all cities and municipalities. This system requires an effective local Blood Program Coordinators and a pool of effective blood donor recruiters in partner-LGUs, and networking and collaboration of major stakeholders in the public and private sectors.

Thus, this training is designed to capacitate designated municipal BP Coordinators and/or Donor Recruitment Officers of LGUs and hospitals in recruiting and retaining voluntary non-remunerated donors.
