Ligtas Tigdas, A Continuing Campaign in Davao Region
The Department of Health Regional Office XI (DOH RO XI) together with Mabini, Compostela Valley Province officially launched “Ligtas Tigdas”, door-to-door Supplemental Immunization Activity (SIA) in the region. The activity is a bid to curb the high incidence of measles among unvaccinated children. To counter the continuing reported cases of measles, infants and children 6 months to 59months of age will be given measles containing vaccine regardless of the immunization status. A child must receive two (2) doses of measles containing vaccine.
In cities and municipalities that already conducted Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI), health personnel will conduct a mop-up operation to account and ensure that children ages 6-59months are already given the measles containing vaccine. Children who were not covered during the ORI will be included in the SIA.
As of May 8, 2018, Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of DOH RO XI has recorded a total of 1,289 suspected measles cases since November 2017, of which, 143 are laboratory confirmed cases. These cases are from Davao City (797), followed by Davao del Norte (234), Compostela Valley Province (130), Davao Oriental (71), Davao del Sur (34) and Davao Occidental (23).
The Ligtas Tigdas Campaign aims to reach all parents, caregivers, and guardians of children 6-59 months to understand the life-saving benefits of measles containing vaccine which is used for decades already. Let us all know that vaccination is the best prevention against measles. Go to your nearest health centers for the free vaccines. –suyavila
